Scarifying Warrington Thatch and Moss in Lawns
Scarifying Warrington thatch and moss in lawns is an essential lawn care service that Cheshire Lawn Doctor provides. Thatch is a layer of dead grass cuttings, dried leaves and other organic debris that is left on the lawn. When there is more debris than is able to be broken down and decompose naturally we are left with a layer that we call thatch.
Scarification is the process of removing thatch and moss from your Warrington lawn. We can put up with a certain level of thatch within or lawns but too much will not be beneficial. Thatch will form a barrier between the soil and air surface, blocking the flow of air, moisture and even nutrients into the soil where it is required by the grass roots. In dry conditions the thatch will soak up any moisture that falls on the lawn and hold the moisture near the surface, where a large proportion of the moisture will evaporate and not get to the roots of the grass. Alternatively in heavy rainfall the thatch will hold water for long periods creating a damp environment that will encourage the growth of moss.
Cheshire Lawn Doctor removes Warrington thatch and Warrington moss by scarification which uses machines with blades that slice through the thatch and moss, scraping the soil surface and removing the unwanted moss and thatch. Scarification removes the thatch thereby addressing the condition that encourages moss to develop.
Scarification can be quite hard on lawns. The process of removing the thatch does not leave your Warrington lawn looking its best. Areas that are heavy with thatch and have a high percentage of moss present will look very bare after scarification and will probably require over seeding with some seed and top soil, and watering to recover.
It is highly recommended that scarification is carried out after an application of moss control and during a period when there is lots of natural moisture forecast to help the lawn recover.
Here at Cheshire Lawn Doctor, your Warrington lawn care professional, we have many years experience of scarifying thatch and moss from your Cheshire lawn and will be able to best advise on any treatments that your lawn will require.
